Question: There is a lot of current research on gangs, including data on the state of gang problems in the United States today, why youth join gangs, the risk factors and attractions that increase youth’s propensity to join gangs, and how gangs form, but within all that research, there is no consensus on how gangs form, and few gang prevention programs have been rigorously evaluated. So instead, the focus is on how do we prevent youth from joining existing gangs? As such, communities tend to employ multiple strategies and services, usually a balance of prevention, intervention, and suppression strategies. What strategies does your community use? If you were in charge on creating a gang prevention strategy for your community,what would it look like?
