One could argue the evolution was designed to make the negligence standard gender neutral. However, in her article The Reasonable Person: A Gendered Concept, author Wendy Parker argues that use of a “reasonable person” standard to define negligence may be “a far more insidious piece of sexist language than the reasonable man….” standard.
