    Summarize and compare/contrast the following dysfunctions:

    Absence of Trust, Inattention to Results, Fear of Conflict

    Discuss why you think Kathryn jumped from Absence of Trust to Inattention to Results with this team. Do you agree with that move? Why or why not?

    Reflect on the importance of “keeping score” for a strong team effort and focus. Formulate a response about that concept and include some key quotes/statements from the book and explain what they mean to you and why you chose them.

    Reflect on and discuss what happened in the “Goals” chapter. Include why you think Kathryn did not seem surprised that the team reverted to old behaviors and why do you think those behaviors resurfaced?

    Discuss Kathryn’s definition of “politics” do you agree with her definition? Did it give you a new perspective on what office politics can be? Explain your answer.

    Discuss the difference between constructive conflict and tension as well as false and true harmony. Apply it to situations in your life.

    In what ways do you think “disagree and commit” could apply to a healthcare organization?

    On page 98 Kathryn said most executives hate to hold colleagues accountable. Think about your work on a group project or within a campus organization. Do you think the same issue applies? If so, how? Discuss how a certain project or program would have different results if the members held each other accountable.

    Reflect and respond to the statement “If everything is important than nothing is”.

    Summarize the status of the team by the end of the off-site. What went well? How did the team leave the off-site. What were some things Kathryn could be encouraged by? Discouraged by? Incorporate Kathryn’s final statement on page 113 paragraph 2. If you had not read ahead, what do you think will happen when the group returns back to the regular environment?

    Review and respond to the confrontation between Kathryn and Nick. How did Kathryn handle it? How did Nick respond? Were you surprised? Do you think you could have handled it the same way? What was the final result? (pages 117-132)

    Review and discuss the concept of “First Team” and loyalties. Do you agree with Kathryn? Why or why not?

    Discuss how Kathryn handled the situation with Mickey – from the tough conversation to how she handled it with the team. Particularly focus on her example with a former employee “Fred”.

    Review what the author suggests about overcoming the 5 dysfunctions. Which dysfunction do you think is most important and why? Which do you think is most difficult to overcome and why? How will you apply the information from this book?
