Health Matters’ Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Dana Foster, has asked you, as Chair of the Clinical Information Committee, to develop an action plan for the successful implementation of the Meditech CPOE product throughout the Health Matters system. More specifically, Ms. Foster would prefer that an action plan be provided in a table format, and then attached to a proposal memorandum. She’ll share the memorandum and action plan with Mr. Forthright, and he’ll likely pass this information along to key members on the Board.

As you begin to formulate your plan of action, you may want to consider the responses to the following questions.

1. How are the key stakeholders associated with the successful adoption of the Meditech CPOE product?

2. A new CIO hasn’t been hired. Does this present a problem when it comes to the implementation of the technology across Health Matters, why or why not?

3. What role, if any, would the new CIO play in the implementation of the CPOE system?

4. To what extent does the fact that Health Matters is a relatively new health system simply or complicate the CPOE implementation project?

5. How do other health systems typically implement CPOE or other clinical information system projects of this magnitude?

6. How might you solicit the wisdom and expertise of others who may have undergone CPOE projects like this one?

7. Who has used the Meditech CPOE application?
